After three wins on the bounce the Eccleshall ladies wanted to keep their winning streak going by beating Shrewsbury away, after a defeat earlier in the season.
After a solid start Eccleshall scored first with man of the match Emily Meakin going over from a well-worked line out, but with half time approaching Shrewsbury struck back and took the lead with a try and conversion.
Following the restart the forwards all dug in with strong rucking and mauling and after sustained pressure and good backs play Lucy Maskew raced in for Eccleshall 2nd try. This was quickly followed by a great individual try from Rachel Hodgkinson who danced her way through Shrewsbury's centres on the stroke of half time creating an Eccleshall lead of 15 - 7
Strait after the break Shrewsbury put the Eccleshall defence under pressure but the determination of the ladies stood firm until after a well worked move the Shrewsbury 14 went over in the corner to bring the scores within 3 points to 15-12.
Eccleshall new they needed a try to ensure victory and it was left to the forwards to get the ball up field. Following sustained pressure in the opponents 22, captain Amy Seabridge made a decisive break but was held short but Scrum half Alice Hodgkinson was on hand to dive over to put Eccleshall in the lead by 8 points.
Shrewsbury threw the kitchen sink and a few other implements at Eccleshall in they dying moments but were unable to break Eccleshall's steadfast defence and the game finished with a well deserved victory.
Eccleshall now lie 4th in the league with their eyes on reaching second after their final league game of the season at home to Tewksbury on May 12th
