| 04/10/2008 | Redditch Vets | L 61-17 | Eccleshall came up against a well seasoned teams of veteran players who had the luxury of rolling subs and a home ref. Poor tackling again let Eccleshall down but when in possession always moved forward. Tries from Steve Rintoul, Adam Preculious and James Stewart added to Eccleshall's total. However it was the late cry-off's again that had players out of position giving the advantage to Redditch especially in the lineout |
| 27/09/2008 | Lichfield II | L 31-0 | A few players let the team down at the last moment so only a bare 15 were able to travel. They came up against a well drilled Lichfield squad but managed to hold them to 10-0 at half time. The 2nd half was a little different with both the heat and a variety of Lichfield subs taking their toll. This resulted in 21 extra points being added. In the last 15, Eccleshall were camped in the opposition half but could not break the defence. Once again, an all round performance from Steve Rintoul and some excellent defence work from James Stewart. Report by Finlay Lamont |
| 20/09/2008 | Stafford II | L 31-5 | This year is the first time the 2nd's have entered the merit league and this was their first game. The squad was full of confidence and this was a much better performance than last week. The pack dominatied in the scrums and competing well in the line out's however some poor refereeing decisions and missed tackles helped Stafford. Chris Archer scored for Eccleshall following a quick penalty by Steve Rintoul. There were a couple of missed opportunities but nothing that a little more training would not overcome. Report by Finlay Lamont. |
| 13/09/2008 | Market Drayton | L 76-7 | From Captain Finlay Lamont. Lost 76 to 7 against market drayton who play one division below our first team. Lack of fitness a problem and shortage of front row players didn't help. Again took a relatively young side james stuart played well getting heavliy involved in the game Stu Davies made an impact on his return with some accurate kivking for touch and a new signing luke mathews made a creditable performance as hooker. The try was a great solo run by joel williams who was playing scrum half at the time. Overall against stiff opposition it highlighted the need to train as a squad but we move on to our first merit game against stafford with some confidence. |
| 06/09/2008 | Leek III | L 34-7 | This should have been a Leek III 's game but with only 8 players and their 1st & 2nd team games cancelled, Leek had a huge squad and the odd were against Eccleshall before we arrived on the car park. Having said that, the team produced a stirling performance on which a solid base for the rest of the season can be built. Eccleshall played a number of young players and produced some good periods of play considering the torrential rain. Leek's tries came from breakaway moves whilst captain Finlay Lamont got one back for Eccleshall following a beautiful off load from Ollie Philips. |
